CYR Files for Arbitration Against Former Officers

California Young Republicans, Inc. (“California Young Republicans” or “CYRs”) filed a demand for arbitration today against former officers Jenniffer Rodriguez and Rohit Joy.  On December 5, 2009, CYR held an annual convention where new officers were elected.  After this convention, former Chair Rodriguez and former Secretary Joy disregarded the election results and continued to portray themselves as leaders of CYR despite no longer holding positions with the organization.  Ms. Rodriguez and Mr. Joy further flaunted CYR’s organizational integrity on February 21, 2010 by holding a convention purporting to represent CYR and issuing endorsements on behalf of the organization without the approval of CYR.

The leadership of CYR has made every attempt to pursue dispute resolution within the requirements set forth by the California Republican Party and the Young Republican National Federation.  These efforts have been unsuccessful and with all administrative remedies having been exhausted the CYR Board of Directors voted on March 3, 2010 to proceed with the arbitration process.  The arbitration process has been initiated and will proceed as outlined in the bylaws of the California Young Republicans, Inc. as well as in accordance with the bylaws of the California Republican Party and the Young Republican National Federation.

Former CYR Chairmen statement on YR convention in Santa Clara

February 19, 2010

Former CYR Chairmen statement on this weekend’s Young Republican convention:

We have been informed that there is currently a dispute over the leadership of the California Young Republicans, Inc. and we are concerned to hear that a Young Republican convention is being held this weekend that will potentially take actions on endorsing candidates for statewide office under the title of California Young Republicans.  As past Chairmen of California Young Republicans, Incorporated we would ask that the participants of this weekend’s convention and those claiming to be in leadership positions of this organization not take part in any action that would issue an endorsement or any other public position.

We hope that the parties involved in the dispute over the leadership of the California Young Republicans will quickly agree to a dispute resolution process or neutral arbitration.  It has always been the goal of California Young Republicans to be a positive force for the Republican Party and we ask those participating this weekend to continue that tradition.

Sincerely,

Congressman Kevin McCarthy
